Nicholas Chaundy is a contemporary portrait artist and figurative painter based in Florence. He is a graduate of Falmouth University and Central St Martins, and of The Florence Academy of Art, where he is currently Principle Instructor in the intermediate and Advanced Painting Programs.
Nicholas received his Foundation Diploma in Fine Arts from Central St Martins, then moved to Falmouth, Cornwall, to study Fine Arts at Falmouth University. With no prior formal training, Nicholas fully immersed himself in the world of fine art during the three-year program, reading about, practicing and discovering the techniques of traditional painting and drawing that had been practiced for centuries by the masters he admired. After graduating, he moved to Bristol to work as a portrait painter, then moved to Florence to study at the prestigious Florence Academy of Art. Here he went on to further his understanding of 19th century techniques in portraiture, figurative and still life painting. Whilst studying at the Florence Academy, Nicholas received a scholarship, and completed the three-year program in just over two years. Now working privately, Nicholas specializes in contemporary realism. He is deeply interested in investigating the nuances that inspired and have given rise to the great artists of the past. Nicholas uses these nuances to create works with a certain theme or aesthetic, indicative of historic ‘styles’ or movements in Art.
